Champion Beer of Scoland 2009

Raven Ale soars to victory!
CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, has today announced that Orkney brewery's Raven Ale has been voted Champion Beer of Scotland at the Scottish Real Ale Festival, Edinburgh.
Ten Scottish beers were selected by tasting panels that judge beer quality and taste to enter this year's final.
The final results were -
1st Raven Ale, Sinclair's Orkney brewery
2nd Red MacGregor, Sinclair's Orkney brewery
3rd XPA, Caledonian brewery
The winner, Orkney Raven Ale, is described in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide as 'a well-balanced, quaffable bitter. Malty fruitiness and bitter hops last through to the long, dry aftertaste.'
Bob Wallace, CAMRA's Scottish Real Ale Festival Organiser, congratulated the winner. He said:
'The judging panel had a very difficult decision to make, but in the end they agreed that they had selected a worthy champion.'
Norman Sinclair, Managing Director of Sinclair Breweries, said:
'We're absolutely overwhelmed by this result. This
is the first time the brewery has taken the two top spots in this important
event, so we're ecstatic. Our beers were up against some very stiff competition
and subjected to what is a rigorous judging process, but their taste and
quality have shone through and done us proud.'
